As the saying goes...there are back handsprings, and then there are back handsprings.
This skill has always been an important mile marker in the development of a gymnast and is used in literally all 4 events. Because of its use as a set up for a bigger skill like a double back on the floor, it is critical the athlete learns it correctly. As a coach, take the time and make the effort to body shape the gymnast so she feels the handstand position. That’s why I like to refer to this often times “taken for granted” and “overlooked in importance” skill ----------as the back HANDSTAND spring!
